Team WATTNESS
CHUCK IV
Welcome to the WATTNESS
home page. WATTNESS is a team involved in U.S. FIRST (For
Inspiration and Recognition of
Science and Technology).
The FIRST Competition is a national contest
which immerses high school students in the exciting world of engineering.
Over six short intense weeks, students and local volunteers work
together to brainstorm, design, construct, and test their robot. The teams
then compete in a spirited, no-holds-barred regional tournament complete
with referees, time clocks and huge amounts of cheering. This year, the
Mid-Atlantic Regional Competition (sponsored by Johnson & Johnson) will
once again be held at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey this
March.
Goals of the FIRST program:
- To expose middle and high school students to
engineering, science, technology, and practical applications of these
skills.
- To create an environment that makes heroes out
of engineers and scientists.
- To create an environment that excites
technicians and engineers, reminding them of why they chose this career.
- To develop a partnership involving schools,
communities, and businesses.
- To help foster life-long learning among all
members of our community
Presidential Thoughts on FIRST:
I am proud of the students participating
in the FIRST Competition for using their energy and creativity to imagine
a brighter future for themselves and our nation. I thank the families,
teachers, engineers, and corporate leaders whose hard work and dedication
to excellence have inspired these teams to discover that science can be
fun, accessible, and the key to personal and professional fulfillment.
