Welcome to the SWATT (Sayre, Waverly, Athens, Troy, Towanda) home page. SWATT is a team involved in U.S. FIRST ("For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology"). The FIRST Competition is a national engineering contest which immerses high school students in the exciting world of engineering. Over six very short yet intense weeks, students and local volunteers work together to brainstorm, design, construct and test their robot. The teams then compete in a spirited, no-holds-barred regional tournament complete with referees, time clocks and huge amounts of cheering. This year, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Competition (sponsored by Johnson & Johnson) will once again be held at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey in March.
Goals of the FIRST program:
Presidential Thoughts on FIRST:I am proud of the students participating in the FIRST Competition for using their energy and creativity to imagine a brighter future for themselves and our nation. I thank the families, teachers, engineers, and corporate leaders whose hard work and dedication to excellence have inspired these teams to discover that science can be fun, accessible, and the key to personal and professional fulfillment. William Jefferson Clinton President United States Our History:The rookie Bradford County Area Team is being established as a result of the success of our sister team in Lackawanna County. Last year they finished 10th out of 36 teams at Rutgers. More importantly, dozens of students gained hands -on experience. By fielding the new Bradford county Team, we are giving 25 more students an educational boost. |
